Beautiful Inspired Custom Wedding Cake

This beautiful, vintage drapery-inspired custom wedding cake was something slightly different from what I normally create. But how could a cake without sugar flowers have an impact? I decided to do a drapery study to see how I could use the color, shape, and texture of fabric to bring drama to a beautiful cake.

I was inspired by the abundant drapery of fabrics in the Renaissance period and was fascinated by the intricate patterns often seen on luxurious gowns. I took a classic design and modernized it with the plain white tiers in between the details. The patterns were handpainted on the fondant to give an even more unique touch.

The opulence of the time period by which I was inspired also was brought to life with the stunning sugar broaches that adorned the center of the folds on the draped tiers. This gave a more organized look but also added another element of elegance to a classically romantic design made contemporary.

This photo by Elena Foresto pulls dramatic focus onto the cake and allows the details to truly shine through. The juxtaposition against a dark green grassy background emphasizes the drama of the glamorous cake even more.
